PURPOSE STATEMENT “To foster, develop and encourage greater integration of traditional Māori Performing Arts in the pursuit of excellence in Australia”

Ngā Kapa Taumata Teitei Māori Performing Arts Australia (NKTT) is pleased to announce that the ACT Maori Performing Arts Inc (ACTMPA) has been successful in its bid to re-host the fourth Australian qualifying regional in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) in 2012.
The festival is held every 2 years and has been held at a national level in Australia since 2006 in Sydney, 2008 in Melbourne and 2010 and 2012 in Canberra. We will see kapa haka (Maori Performing Arts Groups) teams coming to Canberra from all around Australia to participate in this festival. Qualifying teams will then receive the honour to represent their State/Territory and Australia at the prestigious Te Matatini (the Many Faces) National Kapa Haka festival in Aotearoa (New Zealand). The Aotearoa (New Zealand) festival will be hosted by Te Arawa, the people of Rotorua in 2013.
The festival will be held on Saturday, 24 March 2012 at the Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), Budawang Building and Forecourt and Conference Centre, Mitchell, Canberra, ACT. On Friday, 23 March a traditional Maori welcome (Powhiri) will be held to formally welcome the attending groups, performers, supporters, dignitries, official judges and overseas visitors. There will be a traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremony conducted by the local Aboriginal people.
Isaac Cotter the Chairman of NKTT said that “NKTT and ACTMPA Committees’ are looking forward to making the 2012 festival bigger, better and more successful than the last festival.”
The Chairman of ACTMPA, Geoffrey Wallace said “We are looking forward to working with the many volunteers, businesses, government and the community who will come together to help support the festival.”

ENTRY FEE, FOR THE SATURDAY COMPETITIONS, 14 YEARS AND OVER $25, AGED PENSIONERS AND CHILDREN 8 YEARS AND OVER $7, CHILDREN 7 AND UNDER FREE.
THERE WILL BE A SOCIAL AT NIGHT, PRICE FOR THIS WILL BE ADVISED AT A LATER DATE.

BBQ fUNDRAISER
BBQ - Every Saturday and Sunday, from 10am - 3pm we hold our fundraiser sausage sizzle (and steak sandwiches) at WOW Fyshwick, come along and say hello and by a snag or steak sanger or two!

Performances
Matariki Mini Festival. Queanbeyan Conference Centre, Crawford Street, Queanbeyan. Saturday 18th June from9am - 4pm. Stalls, BBQ, scones and tea and coffee. Also a performance by Zamboni the Magician. Performances on stage also from Pearls of the PAcific (POP) Samoan Childrens Group, our very own Tumanako Juniors, and many more.
The opening ceremony will include a traditional Aboriginal welcome ceremony and traditional Maori Powhiri (Welcome) at 10am.
